WATER IS EXCITING!

It is essential to all forms of life. No living being can survive without it. Life began in water more than 3.5 billion years ago, in the form of microorganisms called cyanobacteria. Over time, they multiplied and diversified, giving rise to all forms of life. All living species, including humans, therefore share the same family tree!

Water is one of the major issues faced by the world’s populations, it is a problem of quantity and quality for which humans bear full responsibility.

Through their drawings and accompanying commentary, Dum and Gorce explore the life of water, life in water, water as a common good for all living species, and humanity’s obligations towards it.

In these “Placidian Chronicles of 2025,” you can see some of my latest drawings from this year: Netanyahu, Putin, Trump, Bayrou, Macron, Le Pen, Barbella, and Mélenchon are the highlights of this exhibition.

In a world where, once again, madness knows no bounds, those who govern or aspire to govern us often behave like caricatures of themselves. They lie even more confidently, constantly cry about disaster, point the finger at scapegoats, preferably poor and dark-skinned, proclaim themselves the last resort before submersion or bankruptcy, and the naive good people end up voting for them.

In the end, the grotesque personalities they create for themselves, far from harming them, serve as a springboard, and we cartoonists are overwhelmed. These hysterical caricatures are no laughing matter; they organize chaos, instill fear and hatred of others, and ultimately pervert democracy. All references are reversed, force crushes law, reality becomes virtual or alternative; conspiracy theories, racism, and anti-Semitism are once again in vogue. The victims of yesteryear become the executioners of today, and the law of the strongest prevails everywhere, often at the cost of the deaths of hundreds of innocent victims.

Meanwhile, the earth is suffering, overheating, and these new pyromaniac firefighters are amplifying climate change and doing everything they can to minimize the scale of the phenomenon. Beware those who dare to blaspheme by criticizing them.

This is a very alarming observation, and if these few drawings can still make you smile for a few seconds, it is in the hope of making you even more combative in the face of the never-ending challenge imposed on us by the malice, stupidity, and hypocrisy of those who claim to take over the world by dominating our minds.

He has been exhibiting his drawings at the International Press and Humor Drawing Exhibition in Saint-Just-le-Martel, France, for 25 years, where he won his first international award for his contribution to press drawing and was awarded the “International Press” Porcelain Pencil Award in 2001.

An easy escape from the worries and hassles that are part of everyone’s daily life, detective stories invariably feature villains and heroes, scoundrels and idealists, gangsters and naive characters, corrupt individuals and generous ones, criminals and law enforcement officers, detectives and victims— in short, a condensed version of roles in which everyone can recognize themselves or project themselves, without risking getting caught in a stray bullet or a chainsaw attack.

The wickedness, cynicism, cruelty, and variety of situations created by authors with boundless imaginations found in this form of popular entertainment fascinate and captivate audiences of all ages and social backgrounds.

The stories we encounter say a lot about the state of the world, loneliness and misery, shameless wealth or human brutality, prejudice or abuse of any hierarchy, even the police, but also courage and resilience.

So, some time ago, I had the idea of showcasing the richness and variety of a genre that I love by bringing together in drawings some of the faces of heroes and heroines, as well as their creators, where, I hope, everyone will be able to rediscover or discover memories of good times spent in their company.
