Private viewing Friday the 13th of March at 6 PM (on invitation only) with the artist. Public opening from 10 AM to 12 AM and 2 PM to 5 PM and a half on the Friday, 13 March with Dobritz present: preview of the exhibition, meet the cartoonist, and book signing.
Editorial cartooning ( “dessin de presse” in french ), as its name suggests, is about the press, about urgency. Everything in a daily newspaper is rushed; writing an article is rushed; laying it out is rushed; finding a photo illustration or an infographic is rushed; so the cartoonist’s brain can also be rushed, and no one will object. Finding an idea, imagining it, sketching it, putting it in ink, and then submitting it to some editor; all in such a short timeframe that we can finally speak of a cartoonist under stress. Often the exercise has been repeated several times a day, a subtle mix of artist and craftsman for the form, journalist and dialogue writer for the content.
That way, for nearly half a century, this was my daily life: about 30,000 drawings published in about a hundred newspapers and periodicals .Since my retirement ten years ago, editorial cartooning has been behind me, but as you will see, drawing itself is still very much present.
Therefore, you won’t find any allusions to current, past, or future political figures or other international events among these drawings. But one thing is certain: this exhibition was created without AI and without Bolloré (a french far right billionaire businessman).
